Analysis, Synthesis, and Design of Chemical Processes by Richard Turton,Richard C. Bailie,Wallace B. Whiting and Joseph A. Shaeiwitz

Appropriate for all courses in chemical engineering process design.Analysis, Synthesis and Design of Chemical Processes, Second Edition moves chemical engineering students beyond neatly delineated classroom exercises and into the world of solving the open-ended process problems they will see in practice. The authors accomplish this by emphasizing design synthesis of the entire process-from equipment sizing to optimization, finances to operation. Drawing on over 30 years of teachingchemical engineering process design, they present design as a creative process that integrates the big picture with the small details, and relies on knowing which to stress, and why.
They show students how to apply key process design techniques to every aspect of the discipline, from the conceptual design of a plant to improving an existing process. This edition has been updated throughout, and contains extensive new coverage of environmental, health, and safety issues, green engineering, and engineering ethics. Coverage also includes: evolution and generation of multiple process configurations; estimating capital investment, manufacturing cost, and other economic factors; synthesis and optimization of chemical processes; performance analysis of existing processes and equipment; and more. The authors provide suggested curricula for both single-semester and year-long design courses, case studies and design projects with practical applications, and appendices with current equipment cost data and preliminary design information for four chemical processes. The accompanying CD-ROM contains powerful tools for helping students master chemical process design, including a thoroughly revised version of CAPCOST for evaluating fixed capital investments and full process economics; HENSAD for planning temperatures and heat exchange; a virtual plant tour of a simple chemical process; and additional student design projects.Download

The first edition of C Programming: A Modern Approach was popular with students and faculty alike because of its clarity and comprehensiveness as well as its trademark Q&A sections. Professor King's spiral approach made it accessible to a broad range of readers, from beginners to more advanced students.
With adoptions at over 225 colleges, the first edition was one of the leading C textbooks of the last ten years. The second edition maintains all the book's popular features and brings it up to date with coverage of the C99 standard. The new edition also adds a significant number of exercises and longer programming projects, and includes extensive revisions and updates.

Mechanics of Materials Volume 1, Third Edition : An Introduction to the Mechanics of Elastic and Plastic Deformation of Solids

E J Hearn, "Mechanics of Materials Volume 1, Third Edition: An Introduction to the Mechanics of Elastic and Plastic Deformation of Solids and Structural Materials"
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann | Number Of Pages: 450 | 1997-08-01 | ISBN: 0750632658 | PDF | 19 MB

One of the most important subjects for any student of engineering to master is the behaviour of materials and structures under load. The way in which they react to applied forces, the deflections resulting and the stresses and strains set up in the bodies concerned are all vital considerations when designing a mechanical component such that it will not fail under predicted load during its service lifetime.

All the essential elements of a treatment of these topics are contained within this course of study, starting with an introduction to the concepts of stress and strain, shear force and bending moments and moving on to the examination of bending, shear and torsion in elements such as beams, cylinders, shells and springs. A simple treatment of complex stress and complex strain leads to a study of the theories of elastic failure and an introduction to the experimental methods of stress and strain analysis.

More advanced topics are dealt with in a companion volume - Mechanics of Materials 2. Each chapter contains a summary of the essential formulae which are developed in the chapter, and a large number of worked examples which progress in level of difficulty as the principles are enlarged upon. In addition, each chapter concludes with an extensive selection of problems for solution by the student, mostly examination questions from professional and academic bodies, which are graded according to difficulty and furnished with answers at the end.

* Emphasis on practical learning and applications, rather than theory
* Provides the essential formulae for each individual chapter
* Contains numerous worked examples and problems

Stress Analysis: Theory, tutorials and examples

Ye, “Stress Analysis: Theory, tutorials and examples”
Taylor & Francis | 2008-07-02 | ISBN: 0415368650 | 217 pages | PDF | 1,75 MB

Summarising major concepts and key points, this book tests students' knowledge of the principal theories in structural and stress analysis. Its main feature is helping students to understand the subject by asking and answering conceptual questions. Each chapter begins with a summary of key issues and relevant formulas. A `key points' review identifies important concepts which are essential for students' understanding of the chapter. Numerical examples are used to illustrate these concepts and demonstrate the application of the formulas. A short discussion of the problem is provided before the solution is revealed to ensure that students know not only how but also why a formula should be used.i Structural and Stress Analysis is particularly useful for students preparing for exams. Working through these conceptual questions and reviewing the key points summarized in this book provides a structured approach to assess whether or not the subject has been understood and to identify the area where further revision is needed. It is also a useful reference for those who are taking an advanced structural and stress analysis course. Jianqiao Ye is currently a Reader of Structural and Materials Modelling at School of Civil Engineering, the University of Leeds, UK. He has been working as a university lecturer for over 25 years. His research is concerned with mathematical and computer modelling of structures and materials, and he has published extensively in these areas.

Earthquake Engineering

by

O. C. Zienkiewicz, A. H. C. Chan, M. Pastor, B. A. Schrefler, T. Shiomi

Hardcover: 398 pages
Publisher: Wiley (May 11, 1999)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 0471982857
ISBN-13: 978-0471982852

Product Description
Computational Geomechanics:

* introduces the full theory of dynamic and static behaviour of porous media and shows how computation can predict the deformations of a structure, subject to an earthquake or consolidation.
* introduces the use of numerical, finite element procedures for soil and rock mechanics problems which has increased rapidly throughout the last decade.
* provides a comprehensive survey of major, constitutive models, which can simulate soil behaviour rationally.
* explains practical procedures based on computational experience for real projects with particular emphasis on earthquake engineering.

Static problems which occupy a particular area of dynamics can also be solved by identical methods, making the book relevant to all researchers and engineers concerned with geomechanics. Earthquake Engineering is stressed throughout as it is in this field that the most difficult examples arise; however, other applications are also noted.

Mathematical methods in aerodynamics by Lazăr Dragoş

Title: Mathematical methods in aerodynamics

Author: Lazăr Dragoş

ISBN-10: 9732709863

Publishers: Kluwer Academic Publishers/Editura Academiei Române

Year: 2003

Pages: 590

Description:

The book provides a solid and unitary mathematical foundation of the basic and advanced principles of aerodynamics. The densities of the fundamental solutions are determined from singular integral equations. The fundamental solutions method in aerodynamics was considered for the first time and used by the author in over 30 papers published in prestigious journals (e.g. QAM, AIAA, ZAMM, etc) in order to develop a unitary theory. The boundary element method is used for numerical approximations in compressible aerodynamics. The text incorporates several original contributions, among other traditional mathematical methods. The book also represents a comprehensive presentation of research results since the seminal books on aerodynamics of Ashley and Landahl (1965) and Katz & Plotkin (1991). A rigorous mathematical approach is used to present and explain classic and modern results in this field of science. The author has therefore conceived several appendices on the Distribution Theory, the singular Integral Equations Theory, the Finite Part, Gauss Quadrature Formulae, etc. The book is concluded by a relevant bibliographical list which is especially useful for researchers. The book is aimed primarily at applied mathematicians, aeronautical engineers and space science researchers. The text may be used also as a comprehensive introduction to the mathematical foundations fo aerodynamics, by graduate students in engineering and fluid dynamics with a strong mathematical background.
