ATOM And COSMOS. The World of Modern Physics

ATOM And COSMOS. The World of Modern Physics Summary:
Publisher: The MacMillan Company | pages: 300 | 1933 | ISBN: N/A | CHM | 11,5 mb

AT the very beginning of this extended outline of the present conception of the physical world, I should like to make a remark on my aim and purpose, meaning and plan. It is true that scientific research needs no justification for the scientist himself,
who shares in the growth of science by his own productive work -but does that hold for the outsider, whose life oscillates between vocation and avocation, between office or workshop and the few hours of relaxation at home? What should science mean to all those whose lives are filled with useful work in the service of concrete ends, and who will never find enough time to pursue science as thoroughly as the complete understanding of scientific truth would demand? Is it, indeed, possible to share in a science without knowing it by taking part in its work, especially to share in a science which, like modern physical science, is so cluttered up with mathematical formulae and technical information that access seems almost impossible for the non-specialist?
